9 Dec 2024During your consult, the doctor will talk to you about a treatment plan - and sometimes they might recommend certain accessibility products to aid your recovery or help you get by. If you’re referred to further specialist care or hospital these home health care products may be supplied. But there are some instances when you may prefer to buy your own.
Equipment suppliers like Allied Medical provide a comprehensive range of products to healthcare providers and resellers – but did you know that those same products are also available to you direct from their online store?
What products and equipment are available?
If you’re simply looking for first aid, wound or injury products then your local pharmacy may be your best option. But for more specialist or sophisticated products, and a wide range of options, see Allied Medical. There are lots of products on the market that have been designed to assist with independent daily living, including:
• Walking aids such as canes, walkers and crutches
• Bathing aids including steps, stools, chairs and long-handled sponges
• Toilet aids
• Products designed to help with dressing, grooming and independent living
• Wheelchairs and accessories
• Mobility scooters and powerchairs
• Orthotics, braces and physio products
• Grab rails and guard rails
Can I get equipment funding?
If you have a long-term disability (such as stroke, MS, cerebral palsy or motor neurone disease) you may be eligible for funding from Whaikaha Ministry of Disabled People. If you need equipment due to an injury caused by an accident, you may be covered by ACC. For more information about potential health equipment funding channels please see the Am I Eligible for Funding? page on Allied Medical’s website.
Alternatively, if you have a non-complex and/or short-term condition, you might consider purchasing equipment yourself. Self-funding offers flexibility and enables you to purchase products that may enhance comfort, mobility, and independence.

Emergency Consult is not affiliated with Allied Medical, or any other equipment supplier and we do not endorse any particular brand of product.
