5 Jun 2025Virtual consults are timely and convenient. They are of huge benefit to people wanting to be seen quickly without having to travel or wait in a crowded waiting room.
But not every condition is suitable to be seen virtually. Telehealth (the term used by medical professionals to describe care provided from a distance) is a convenient alternative to in-person care for conditions that can be successfully seen and treated through video chat functionality.
Our service is ideal for urgent and episodic care. For continuity of care, we recommend seeing your usual GP when you can. But if you're away from home, can't get in with your GP, or just need medical advice right now, Emergency Consult is for you.
Through Emergency Consult, you are able to quickly access vastly experienced emergency doctors who can see and treat your acute illness or injury—or advise you on the next steps.
Urgent telehealth is most suited to medical conditions that require timely attention but are not life or limb threatening—if you require an ambulance dial 111 immediately.
Some of the ailments we commonly see and treat online include:
- Viral illness like colds & flu
- Sore throats
- Sinus/ear infections
- Conjunctivitis
- Respiratory infections
- Asthma
- UTI’s
- Allergic reactions
- Rashes and skin conditions including impetigo
- Insect bites and stings
- Vomiting and diarrhoea
- Toothache
- Back pain or strain
- Cold sores
- Headache
- Indigestion and heartburn
- Thrush or other yeast infections
- Minor wounds or cuts (that don’t need sutures) and burns
- Minor soft tissue injuries, stains & sprains
- Advice whether chest or abdominal pain needs in-person consult
- Urgent prescriptions if you’re away from home or run out of medication (excludes controlled drugs)
Medications such as antibiotics are within the scope of telehealth; and your prescription can be sent directly to your nearest or preferred pharmacy to collect. But please note that we do not prescribe controlled drugs or opioids, section 29 medications, sedatives or sleeping pills.
On-demand video consults are safe and secure. Your consults are never recorded and your information is kept completely private just as you would expect from visiting a physical urgent care clinic. If you choose, your patient notes will be emailed to your regular GP.
You can access Emergency Consult on any device with a camera (your smartphone, tablet or computer). For an optimal consult get yourself in a well-lit, quiet space, with stable internet connection.
