Dr Gautama has a wealth of experience spanning multiple specialties and diverse roles in healthcare. She was originally trained at the Royal London Medical School and has worked extensively throughout New Zealand as well as in Australia, Papua New Guinea and Samoa. She has fellowships from both the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners and the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine New Zealand – and numerous postgraduate certifications including Tropical Health, Obstetrics, Palliative Care and Clinical Education.

Dr Gautama recently served as Clinical Director for Rural Hospitals in Northland (Te Tai Tokerau). Her current practice includes SMO roles in Emergency Medicine and Rural Hospital Medicine in addition to working in telehealth with Emergency Consult. Dr Gautama also has deep healthcare governance experience having been a Board Member for the Rural Chapter of the College of GPs, Clinical Lead for the South Island (Division of Rural Hospital Medicine) and Board Member of the Southern Cancer Network.

Outside of medicine, Dr Gautama leads an active lifestyle with interests in sailing, hiking, cycling, skiing, and paddleboarding. She is passionate about maintaining a balanced life, drawing inspiration from her two daughters and recent qualifications in Functional Medicine.
