Dr Alias gained her undergraduate qualification from the University College of Cork. Malaysian by birth, she moved to Ireland at age 19 to commence her medical training. After completing her Bachelor of Medicine she took, what was supposed to be, a one-year hiatus in Aotearoa. But life down-under suited Dr Alias and she ended up staying. She settled in Palmerston North, where she stayed for four years, before moving to Auckland to complete her specialist training in Emergency Medicine. After five years in Auckland, Dr Alias returned to the ‘Rose City’, which has become her chosen home town. With her family all in Malaysia, Dr Alias has forged close bonds with friends in Palmy who have become a surrogate family. While she stays busy as an Emergency Medicine Specialist in her local ED, and with Emergency Consult, she also values work-life balance and loves spending time in the outdoors. You’ll find her planning tramping trips in summer and skiing expeditions in the winters.
